SSA interviews the one and only Pharaohe Monch. From his early days with Organized Konfusion to classic solo albums like "Internal Affairs", it isn't hard to see why Pharaohe is revered as one of the nicest emcees in rap music. Proppers goes out to the homie Knecessary for holding down another top notch interview... check out what he had to say...

Knes: What's good this is Knesessary with SSATV and we're here with the legendary Pharaohe Monch. How ya feelin' man?

PM: Hey I'm good man. Records out, on the Rockafella tour, and I feel real good inside. Real good.

Knes: Well we feel pumped to have you, man. So tell me more about your recently released album DESIRE.

PM: It's incredible...the reviews, everything. It's just amazing. We are out here grindin' it and workin' it like we are supposed to be; like hip-hop is supposed to be presented to the people.

Knes: So most of the people that just caught on to Pharaohe Monch, let them know how you've been doing your thing on the scene.

PM: Man, I've  been makin' music for like fifty five, sixty years now. Haha. Nah, actually I've been around for about a minute. I was in a
group called "Organized Konfusion," and we put out three records: Self-titled, Stress, and Ancient Agenda. After, I went solo and did the Internal Affairs album- some great music was turned out of that. And, here I am now.

Knes: So what are some of your musical inspirations?

PM:
Well, I run the whole gamut- from weather report to cold train. A lil' rock with Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and some funk with James Brown, Al Green, and Marvin Gay. I listen to everything.

Knes: With that said, with the current state the music game is in right now, who are some of your favorite artists?

PM: Definitely this chick Georgia Ann Mojo. In fact I have her in my c.d. player right now. I was just listening to her today- the album is really bangin' to me. And who can knock some Sean Price and the whole WU-CAMP movement. I love all his records.

Knes: What artists have you enjoyed working with most?

PM: Wow, man. I can't really pick- I'm so passionate about the music I forget about collaborating as an artist and just kind of become the fan. Ha-ha! I look at some of these dudes and they are the mouths of this generation. For example: When I was working on The Truth with Talib and Common, I was just so overwhelmed. I'm just a fan like everyone else. It's a good feeling' to have the camaraderie and be able to record a record with the peeps you look up to.

Knes: Out of all the places you've been, and I know you've been across the globe- what's your favorite place to be at?

PM: I can't really call that. You know, what we do overseas...it embraces us so much. So many places like the UK, Sweden, and Germany embrace hip-hop just as much as the States. So in reality, we are just doin' it all around. I have to tell you though; my eyes have been opened, especially on this current tour because every city is just so responsive to the current record.

Knes: Speaking of current...given the current state of the country, how do you feel about where this nation is headed?

PM: Umm...Well, we're in some turbulent times, man. But, I think the people are getting more aware of what's goin' on. (Even thought the government likes to desensitize them.) Ya know, I talk about this all the time, especially my stance on the current war and how the media aren't allowed to show the coffins of soldiers coming home. People don't really get a grasp of what this is all about. I mean look at our lives...chillin' and eatin' and doing what we do, and no one realizes how grimy and so unnecessary this is. War has never achieved anything in history, but we are so oblivious to that sometimes. However, as I said before I think the people are becoming more aware and I think it will reflect on the next election. So, I guess we will see what happens. From my standpoint, I can't even put what I want to say on tape. Ha-ha!

Knes: Haha. I definitely feel you and it’s definitely good to have you. This is SSATV with Pharoahe Monch, pick up the new album “Desire” in stores y'all!
